AWS-powered Data Integration: Mastek Successfully Migrates Legacy Dynamics AX ERP estate into AWS Data Platform for IPF
Migrating a legacy Dynamics AX ERP estate onto an AWS data platform calls for the breaking down of monolithic and extremely customized Microsoft SQL Server architectures into scalable and cloud-native components. Using AWS to unbundle legacy data into unified analytical stores can enable organizations to avoid high licensing overheads that accompany a full application upgrade - especially as Microsoft has ended its official support for all on-premise Dynamics AX versions.
This is a case study of how Mastek strategically partnered International Personal Finance plc (IPF) to migrate its legacy four-market Dynamics AX ERP estate onto its wider AWS Strategic Data Store platform. Through this migration of two connected workstreams of one programme, Mastek delivered clean, governed and per-market data to ensure that IPF was totally SAP-ready.

About International Personal Finance (IPF) plc
International Personal Finance plc is a provider of consumer finance solutions, offering home credit instalment loans, hybrid loans, credit cards, digital instalment loans, revolving credit lines, and mobile wallets.
Challenge
IPF’s legacy Microsoft Dynamics AX ERP across four markets (Czech, Romania, Hungary, Poland) were deployed on ageing on-premises SQL Server.
With data fragmented across 29 sources in its markets, it took two to three months of manual data preparation per market to achieve SAP-readiness. Plus, its manual extracts could not meet GDPR, data-residency and auditable-lineage obligations.
IPF engaged Mastek to migrate its ERP data to AWS and ensure that the data was clean, governed and market-relevant.
Solution
We migrated IPF’s ERP data into the existing AWS Strategic Data Store (SDS) data lake via AWS DMS (full load + CDC, Multi-AZ, private subnets).
As a next step, we deployed AWS Glue crawlers/ETL and achieved Amazon EMR GDPR de-personalisation and Amazon Athena reconciliation. We ensured market-relevance of data using Amazon S3 CONF buckets with dedicated AWS KMS keys, and also enabled bi-directional data-sharing with Snowflake for the SAP team.
Other technology tools we deployed include:
- AWS CloudFormation (via Azure DevOps CI/CD), an Infrastructure as Code (IaC) service, to model, provision, and manage AWS and third-party resources by using text-based configuration files.
- AWS CloudTrail to track user activity and API calls across the AWS infrastructure.
- AWS Config to record, audit, and evaluate configuration changes of cloud resources.
- Amazon GuardDuty (a fully managed threat detection service) to continuously monitor AWS accounts, workloads, and data for malicious and unauthorized behavior.
- Amazon Inspector for automated vulnerability management of cloud workloads for software flaws and unintended network.
We deployed AI through Amazon Q / Kiro for discovery and dependency analysis, and Claude (via Mastek Cowork) to generate QA deliverables. Human review gates were strictly deployed before customer delivery.
